Achilles Tendinitis/Tendinopathy
Achilles Tendinitis or Achilles Tendinopathy are common injuries in sporting and general populations. The most common question patients will ask is if it is safe to continue exercising or running. The answer depends on the type of Achilles injury. The differential diagnoses for pain around the Achilles include:
- Mid-Achilles Tendinopathy
- Insertional Achilles Tendinopathy
- Plantaris Tendinopathy
- Achilles Tendinitis/Peritendonitis (Inflammation of tendon sheath)
- Retro Calcaneal Bursitis
- Achilles Partial or Full Rupture
- Sural Nerve (Potentially Referred Pain)
- Posterior Ankle Joint Impingement (can be caused by Bony Spur, swelling from Ankle Instability, Peroneal Tendinopathy, Flexor Hallucis Longus Tendinitis)
- Sever’s Disease or Calcaneal Apophysitis (commonly seen in children and adolescents aged between 8-14 years old)
